Civic Engagement Council
The Civic Engagement Council is an umbrella organization for more than 25 student-led service organizations.
The CEC executive board supports the work of these groups in addition to offering campus-wide events and programming during National Volunteer Week. If you or your group would like to collaborate with the council or if you would like to be put in touch with one of the student groups, please contact the CEC adviser Christina Eggenberger at cheggenberger@davidson.edu.
This page is just a sampling of the many clubs and organizations active at ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø, sorted alphabetically. Members of the ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø community may view all organizations on . Students may also work with the Student Activities Office to launch new clubs and organizations.
Ada Cooks
Ada Cooks is a volunteer organization that goes to the once a week to conduct enrichment programming. Ada Cooks teaches students about the importance of nutrition and wellness through crafts and cooking activities; the group also helps students practice their academic skills through fun exercises.
Adopt-A-Grandfriend
Adopt-A-Grandfriend is an organization that focuses on pairing ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø students with older individuals in the local area to cultivate a tight-knit community and facilitate good times, and the creation of a support system for ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø Students.
Alternative Breaks is an organization that is focused on providing opportunities for immersive service. Participants will live and serve in communities over school breaks with the goal of learning more about that community and their issues.
Amnesty International
Amnesty International is a global movement with millions of members fighting injustice and promoting human rights. Join us to help educate our peers and raise awareness of human rights violations around the world through discussion group meetings and action events around campus!
Buddy Club
Buddy Club meets weekly with young adults who have developmental disabilities. We spend time with them, get to know them, play games, make crafts, and just have a good time. Throughout the year, we have larger banquet events and are hoping to expand outreach to more schools and maybe hold some educational events for disability awareness.
'Cats for a Cause partners with the Levine Children’s Hospital and Children Miracle Network to raise money and awareness for children fighting illnesses. The money we raise goes towards helping pay for treatment, morale boosting activities for the kids, and hospital items such as NICU diapers. Throughout the year, we have fundraising events like puppy day and profit shares. In addition, we volunteer at the hospital and host events with our miracle kids. Our culminating fundraiser is Dance Marathon which is a 5 hour event where the miracle kids and their families share their stories while enjoying fun activities like arts and crafts, performances from our a capella and dance groups, food, minute to win it games, and a silent auction.
Community Free Clinic
Community Free Clinic is an organization that provides free healthcare services to underserved communities in Cabarrus Country. At the community Free Clinic Club, we seek to assist them in their mission to provide accessible healthcare by helping with a wide array of clinic operations and tasks.
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø Doctors Without Borders Chapter
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø Doctors Without Borders Chapter is a student-led humanitarian organization that aims to spread awareness about various international global health issues, support physicians overseas, and educate the public about ongoing issues. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to serve, learn, and fundraise for disproportionately affected communities beyond ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø.
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø IGNITE
Our organization is a volunteer-based partnership with the IGNITE program to support individuals with autism through engaging in weekly social activities like trivia, making ice cream, and playing board games. IGNITE's community center is located in ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø within walking distance (next to Brickhouse)! We plan to start volunteering one weekday per week after all classes have ended! Volunteers need to be Working with Minors certified.
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø Refugee Support is a relational, long term, and self sustaining group devoted to supporting refugees in North Carolina. Our primary nonprofit partner is Refugee Support Services in Charlotte and we work with them in a variety of ways from one-time events to fundraising.
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø Volunteer EMT Club
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø Volunteer EMT club is a club dedicated to educating students interested in becoming EMTs and supporting those with certifications by offering shadowing experiences, practice scenarios, and connections with local EMS agencies.
Named after the humanitarian W.E.B. DuBois, DuBoisian is a mentorship program for students at West Charlotte High School. ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø students visit the school once a week to discuss post-high school readiness, mental health, and other related fields with the students. Throughout the year, ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø students also plan two field trips for the students, including college visits. At the end of the school year ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø students fundraise for the students’ post-high school plans.
Girls in STEM is a community outreach organization focused on bridging the gender gap in STEM. All students are welcome to join us. We present a variety of science experiments to 4th and 5th grade girls through engaging, fun lessons that ultimately support the girls' identities as scientists and the possibility of their pursuing a career in STEM.
Make-A-Wish ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø
Our goal is to rally together to plan and coordinate fundraising campaigns to help Make-A-Wish® grant more wishes to kids with critical illnesses. We will provide students a direct opportunity to be involved with granting wishes and volunteering at local Make-A-Wish events.
The mission of Project Life Movement is to ensure that every person fighting blood cancer finds their miracle match. When someone is fighting a blood cancer, they will often need a stem cell or bone marrow transplant, but it is difficult to find a donor. Our organization tries to increase the chances of a person suffering from blood cancer finding a life saving match by adding volunteers to the national bone marrow registry. We both host our own events and partner with other organizations to increase the number of potential donors available for a life saving transplant.
An affinity group on campus for QuestBridge students that provides resources, mentorship, and community. The group focuses primarily on financial literacy, navigating financial aid, and guiding students throughout college to be successful.
The goal of STEM Enrichment is to perform engaging, fun science activities and experiments with Ada Jenkins students in hopes of instilling in them an appreciation for STEM. We hope this early exposure to interesting, relevant scientific concepts will foster students’ identities as scientists and depict the importance of science in everyday life.
Share a Square aims to craft for a cause by teaching members to crochet and knit squares to make blankets for underprivileged communities around the world. We also sell products to fundraise for local causes throughout the year.
Strong Girls United is a club dedicated to strengthening the minds, hearts, and bodies of young girls and female athletes. We empower female athletes on campus by emphasizing the interconnectivity of mental and physical health. Our club engages with local organizations and schools to promote female participation in sport. This includes volunteering, community service, and attending Women’s sporting events at ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø. All students are welcome.
The Sunrise Movement Hub at ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø creates a space where like-minded environmental activists can take action together. We are committed to climate justice and empowering our community to fight for a sustainable future. Our current projects include a community garden at Ada Jenkins, educational outreach, political activism, and raising awareness about sustainability on campus.
