Internships, Careers and Graduate School
We regularly advise our students in identifying and choosing careers or graduate schools.
The Betty and B. Frank Matthews II ’49 Center for Career Development (Matthews Center) also provides a large number of online and in-person services to assist students in finding internships, graduate programs, and career opportunities.
Careers
As the quintessential liberal arts major, classics prepares students for fulfilling lives and successful careers in a wide range of jobs in public and private sectors. We focus on preparing students to read carefully, think critically, and express their ideas in whatever professional roles they find themselves. Recent graduates have worked in accounting, banking, consulting, law, medicine, and the ministry. Several are high school Latin teachers; one is an assistant college football coach.
Graduate School
The Classics Department prepares you for graduate-level study through rigorous coursework and research opportunities. Our faculty members provide individual guidance to students pursuing graduate study and engage in candid conversation about job prospects within academia.
ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø graduates have attended many of the nation's top graduate programs in classics and archaeology, including those at Bryn Mawr College, Harvard University, Yale University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Fellowships are competitive awards and programs that provide funding and other resources for meaningful immersive work, like research, teaching, or service. Like scholarships, fellowships can also support academic study.
These featured fellowships support a variety of experiences in and outside of the U.S. Interested candidates should contact ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø’s Office of Fellowships to learn more about these fellowships and other programs.
